Nine legends of Pepper Street gathered round to throw down in the first ever annual Legacy Hall of Fame invitational mix game poker tournament!

That’s right, we were playing eight different games! There were 25 legacy players eligible for this event, only nine were brave enough to show up and fight through all the poker disciplines (flop, stud & draw) for the exclusive and gorgeous golden trophy.
One brand spanking new Legacy player was the one and only cash game legend Mr. Stuver. It always slips my mind that he was not in the Hall of Fame, but that’s merely a technicality. It’s only because he doesn’t care for tournaments. So of course we inducted him right away before we sat down, long overdue sir! His custom chip quote was “ I hate tournaments!”
With all the different games, thankfully we had two excellent dealers. Mr. Jason and Mr. Eric L. I cannot say thank you thank you thank you enough to both for rocking so hard and making sure everyone could keep everything straight.
It was almost a good five hours before we had our first bust out, I believe it was Mr. Stuver. Then we had one more bust, Mr. Jason I think, and we were at a final table of seven.
Final table play commenced, and stacks overall all around were pretty shallow with the notable exceptions of Colin and Mr. Jeff G. It wasn’t long before it was bubble time…. Unfortunately for yours truly, I was the pre-bubble buster.
It was the Venerable Mr. Tony G who was the actual bubble boy, he took it gracefully as always and bid his farewell. Three handed play was underway, and it was Jeff G and Colin in the lead, but soon the tide would turn.
Jerry went on a bit of a rush, and Colin had trouble connecting with his large draws. The former chipped way up, and the latter ended up having to settle for $160 in third place, which was just his money back as he had re-entered.
It was heads up between Jeff and Jerry, they agreed at the outset to split the money evenly and play for the trophy/seat. each received $330 and the battle commenced.
I want to say it was a good 45 minutes or so before the dust cleared, and Jeff G remained. He gets both the trophy and an extra 5K in the TOC as he already had his seat locked up. Congrats Jeffy, well deserved!
This event was truly special, and there was a ton of poker to play, as I mentioned almost 5 full hours before our first elimination. I think the structure was close to perfect, but next time it will be tweaked a bit. At one point we had a level double which was not my intention, but I think it was OK.
The other reason this tournament is special, besides the great games and the action, is of course the players. They are all truly what makes Pepper Street special, it’s why I wanted to have a legacy Hall of Fame in the first place. The game is great because of the people who play in it, and this tournament is a tribute to that that I hope will continue on for the life of PSP in the garage around back.
This tournament was originally scheduled to take place in 2021, that’s why the trophy has that date on it. Of course omicron derailed our plans, and now I have another trophy with 2022 on it. That means one thing…
Our next legacy invitational tournament will take place at the end of this year! That’s right, let’s do it again! Only this time instead of a full eight game mix, I am going to make it a Big Bet mix of No-Limit Hold-Em & PLO! Look for this event to happen in October.
In the meantime, there’s a ton of more poker ahead, including our next monthly event on Saturday, June 25 at 5 PM. Also before that keep your eyes peeled for an Evite for a single table tournament next Friday night.
