2022.06 Main Event

 It was going to be a hot day, but thankfully not as hot as last week, as the tables were set and the canopies raised around the patio across from the garage around back - for the umpteenth annual Pepper Street Poker No-Limit Hold-Em Main Event!

Almost everyone showed up on time for double the buy-in and twice to starting chips, and we were underway! Action was hot and heavy from the start as we had a reentry from Mr. Jeff S barely a few hands in! Aces cracked, first time ever in poker!

Because re-entries were allowed until the second break, we had a pretty large prize pool accumulate. $2700 after taking out 100 for the TOC!  Our third table broke just after the second break, and action heat it up even more.

Second break was also the half hour dinner break, and pizza was had by all. Afterwards it wasn’t too long, maybe an hour, before the second table broke and it was final table time.

Yours truly was excited to get all of his chips in after flopping top two pair, unfortunately I ran into bottom set and all the chips went to Jeff G and I was out in ninth place.

Our unfortunate money bubble boy was Mr. Kyle, who I believe might’ve bubbled last time also. He took it gracefully and only had one middle finger extended as he left. then we were in the money!

First to bust and cash in seventh place was Mr. Jesse who pocketed $160 for double his buy in.

Next out was Jesse’s better half, Mrs. Kat in sixth place, collecting $220 for her excellent work.

Finishing next in fifth place, newer player Philip had rocked his short stack expertly into a nice $300 payout.

And then there were four…

Four handed play was actually a battle for quite a while, with chip stacks growing and shrinking in all directions. Stephen B had doubled up beautifully after his opponent was counterfeited, but eventually turn around was fair play and he found himself on the losing end of a counterfeit situation and had to settle for fourth place and a $360 prize.

And then there were three…

Jeff S had re-entered twice, but was able to turn a decent profit anyway after a valiant battle, he finished in third place for $400.

And then it was heads up…

Heads up play was a good half hour or more, yours truly was cleaning up the yard so the guys handled their own shuffling and dealing for a while. Then the wife joined in and helped me do some shuffling so they could get more hands in. It went back-and-forth a little bit and in the end the monstrous chip stack of Mr. Jeff G was too much for Mr. Ian.

Ian got a lovely $500 second place payout, while Jeff G snagged $800 plus a super sexy and shiny golden fan of cards trophy! Congrats to you both!

Jeff G is now nipping at my heels for POY, I of course am ultimately ineligible, but unofficially I’m still the leader! Barely!

I definitely need to mention that both Jeff and Ian stuck around and helped Beverly and I clean everything up, including lugging the giant tables back into the garage. This is very very much appreciated guys! You rock!

Also want to say thanks to everyone else who came out and as always made it a great time! I do appreciate the players who stuck it out in the sweatbox, I was happy to break that table as early as I could, and I appreciate everyone being a good sport and toughing it out.

Our next monthly tournament is looking to be the second Saturday, August 13 at 5 PM. We will be out on the patio again, and it should be quite a bit cooler than the 1pm start. There won’t be a sweatbox table like that was this time around, unless of course we end up with 27 players again! Even then it should be quite a bit cooler.

Wednesday Cash - 2022.07

 The lineup changed several times in the last 24 hours, with one player dropping because he got his booster shot and was feeling like crap and another having to stay home because family members had the corona. All are doing well overall I believe. We also had another one have to drop on July 4 because he tested positive when he got back from Vegas.

That said, after an 11th our text blast by me to some of the old reliables (who must've forgotten that it was Cash game night, but then remembered and were able to come) we still had seven hearty souls show up and throw down with big bet mixed cash game action!

We had yours truly, Jeff S, Mike C, Stuver, Collens, Lea Anne, and Sean L.  Lea Anne Had to depart a bit early after she dropped two buy ins, but the rest of us were in for the long-haul including multiple bomb pots and a completely crazy round of the mighty PLO.

In the end Mike C, who had dropped $100 buy in and then reloaded, finished the night with over $300 in front of him after a wild final hand in which he was dealt aces in a bomb pot! The bullets hold! 

Yours truly finished up over $100 in profit, and it was hard to tell how everybody else finished. No one was up or down any giant amount, but the fun all night was indeed huge!

I will have to double check but I believe this is the sixth cash game for several players, which means they get automatic entry into the TOC and are free rolling a $1000 prize pool tourney! It pays to play cash at PSP, even when you finish down!

Our next one of these likely will be the first Wednesday in August, of course there’s always a chance if I get the hankering we might go a week or two earlier. It will always be a mix of games, sometimes, like tonight, it will be big bet hold ‘em and Omaha varieties, other nights we will throw in stud and lowball draw games as well.
