Tournament Report - now that's good P.O.R.N.!
Nearly every seat in the house was full, 17 players in all sat down to what would be an epic evening at Pepper Street.
At the last minute (Saturday afternoon) I abandoned my idea for alternating games every 15 minutes - I realized that trying to do this would be somewhat of a logistical nightmare. Instead I opted for a more tournament director friendly mixed game format of one game every hour, this led to much less confusion for the players and much less headaches for yours truly.
That said, it was still a bit of a challenge for everyone to keep up and keep a handle on what was being played at any particular moment. As much fun as mixed games can be, and it is absolutely my favorite in terms of playing - as a tournament director I must confess that I much prefer a single game tournament, especially hold-em, which is the simplest for people to deal and understand.
First up was Crazy Pineapple, which everyone seemed to enjoy as it is a slightly wacky cousin of hold-em.
Pot Limit Omaha/8 proved to be particularly daunting, especially at my table - with one hand that took a full ten minutes to complete due to a crazy number of all ins and a seemingly endless number of side pots. Somehow we got through it.
My favorite was next - Razz. Seven card stud low ball, or as I've taken to calling it - "This God forsaken game." It was the only game of the evening that was fixed limit, but the bet amounts were so large that it still saw some significant chip swings.
Finally, we slid into everyone's comfort zone - the ubiquitous No Limit Hold-em. By this point we had lost quite a number of players already, and quickly got down to one table.
Midnight approached and the blinds were gi-normous. Since we had 17 players to start, we would be paying four. I managed to squeak into this fourth paying position when my all-in pre-flop AK was cracked by Noah P's A6. Dan I. was also in the hand, and lost as well. Since he had fewer chips than I at the start of the hand, he got the honor of bubble boy.
Gabor V. finished next, and after a not so long head's up battle between Mike K. and Noah P. - the enormous chip stack of the latter proved too much for the former to overcome. Noah P. took home the cash, nearly $200, and the glorious P.O.R.N. Star Trophy.
HUGE thanks to everyone that came out to play, especially the new players! It was great seeing new faces, and I hope you all had enough fun that you'll come back to Pepper Street soon.
Thankfully for this game host, our next tournament will be No Limit Hold-em only. Like I said, it's not my favorite to play, but it's a heck of a lot easier than handling multiple games.
The likely date at this point is Saturday, October 18, but that is unofficial for now. I'm also racking my brain trying to figure if I can squeeze a cash game in at some point before November. If it does happen it will be on a Friday night.

Cash Game Report: Serious Fun!
A big thanks to all the players who took the plunge with me into the land of a higher buy in, and pot limit cash game play.
We had some big pots, and big excitement, but everyone was just as friendly as ever - with a good mix of Pepper Street Vets and newer players as well. JH was our big winner, racking up the chips in Pot Limit Omaha and Hold-Em.
TS had the biggest come back of the night, rebuilding his stack almost completely after reloading three times.
I abandoned the idea of a set list, and instead threw it up to dealer's choice - with the caveat that we not play a round of the same game twice in a row. I was worried that it would be Hold-em and Omaha/8 all night, but even without a regimented list, we still managed to play a great variety of games.
A highlight was the Pepper Street Poker debut of 2-7 Triple Draw. A fairly confusing, but wicked fun, low balll version of five card draw. Unlike Razz, where straights and flushes are okay in a low hand, and aces are low - in 2-7 TD (also called Kansas City Low Ball) straights and flushes count AND aces are high only.
Another game making it's debut was Pot Limit Omaha - that's right, up until last night, it's always been Omaha/8 only. Pot Limit Omaha (the high only version of the game) is currently the second most popular game in the world, and it lived up to it's reputation last night as an action game - with some of the biggest pots of the evening.
I don't think there is any going back from here - pot limit play, and a higher buy-in are here to stay. There may or may not be one more cash game in 2008, stay tuned!
