2020.09 - PLO

 It was a lovely evening for the most action packed poker game known to human-kind - NO, not boring ass No-Limit Hold-Em, this was the Amazing Ball-Busting Crazy Ass POT LIMIT OMAHA!  Tournament style!

Royal Chips were in play and everything was ready for the 12 courageous players who were confident enough in their poker skills to throw down with something other than the same old same old -

So our numbers were down, but the action was still enormous.  Double points for Player of the Year of course, and lots' o' gambling to be had before the break - four re-entries, though no one had to do a double re-entry as I thought might have been possible, with this being such a crazy game and all.

I had been looking forward to this event for months - unfortunately I was unable to get much going and had the misfortune to run into a set with my top two pair and very few chips behind.  Aces and Eights were no good against a set of eights!  Sick!  First time ever in poker!

I was the final table bubble, as we merged 8 handed and continued on with the gambooling.

Just dealing I'm afraid...  Also I'm hella bald apparently.

Speaking of dealing, Jeff S. and Eric L. both took on the lions share of the dealing, with Eric extending his duties into the final table.  Much thanks to both of you for that!

Emanuel was our unfortunate bubble boy and then Ian busted to collect $40 and a bounty or two in fourth place.

Finishing third, on the eve before his WSOP departure (good luck this week!) was Jeff G.  He scooped up $120.

And then there were two.  I would like to say the battle was long and arduous, but it was literally one hand.  Colin and Eric caught two action hands and an action board insured that they "Pot" "Pot!" "POT"ted their way to an all in immediately.  Aaaand the winner was...

I'll take THAT, thank you very much!

Colin had to settle for second place and $180 plus a whopping $30 in bounties, for a grand total of $210!  Nicely done and a nice chunk for a 12 person $45 tournament.

Speaking of nice chunk - Eric L. pocketed $260 plus $25 in bounties PLUS another $180 for a delightful $465!!!

Where, prey tell, did the extra $180 come from?  Oh that's right, we had an optional last longer $20 bet, which featured 9 degenerate participants.  To the victor go the spoils!  Congrats Mr. Eric!

Our next one is in a mere 13 days, and yes we are back to poopy No-Limit Hold-Em.   Mark your calendars for Saturday,  November 6 at 5pm.   Stay tuned for the Evite.

 Summer has finally started to loosen it's grip, and it was a lovely 78 for most of the day in Burbank - by the time 5pm rolled around the temperature slowly started to drop and it felt perfect in The Garage Around Back with 26 delightful degenerates gathered together to throw down with teh pokerz.

It was a boisterous hour and 40 minutes before break time.  We had four re-entries before the break, and two players who were felted and just weren't feeling it and decided to vamoose before the pizza arrived.

We had a couple of special guests.  Once again Michele from San Francisco honored us with a visit.  Also, my brother showed up for the first time in over five years!  Of course he was immediately inducted into our Legacy Hall of Fame.  Yes, you must be present to be inducted - which is why it took him this long.  Many forget that he was a wrecking ball back in the day, winning 3 tournaments in 2008!  Then his kids were born and family stuff etc.

The Dr. is finally in!

Play continued for another hour or so - action as always was hot and heavy, with our third table breaking right around 8pm.

The time with two tables was substantially shorter than the time with three tables.  930 approached and it was Final Table time!

The good news was that Dr. David made the final table, the bad news was that he couldn't hold on for the money - busting in 8th just two spots from the cash-ola.

Mr. Jeff G. was our official bubble boy in 7th falling just short of a payday.  

Despite his mountain of chips in the picture up above, Stephen B. found himself on the wrong side of a couple of flips and had to settle for the 6th place money-back payout.

(FUNNY Stephen B story.   At one point in the tournament Stephen stood up and started screaming at the top of his lungs - "Yes!!!  Yessss!!!   F*** YESSSS!!!!!"   I figured he had just sucked out on someone in poker and was letting them have it.   Good for him, I thought to myself.   Turns out he was just excited about some baseball game or something)

Finishing next in 5th for double their entry fee was the ever amicable Joe S.  I'm excited to learn that Joe will be joining Jeff G. and myself for the Seniors Event this year at the WSOP!   I've got your phone number Joe, I will be tracking you down so we can regale each other with bad beat stories!

I dealt four handed play which concluded with the exit of Kat's other half Jessie, who got $140 for his trouble plus an additional $20 in bounties.

Busting in third place, another player who at one point had ALL the chippies - legendary Rounder Lea Anne.  She got $180 plus a bounty or two if I'm remembering correctly.

And then there were two...

I'm just a dealer/shuffler!

The battle raged for a bit - the chip lead changed more than once, including a time when Kat had Emanuel on the ropes with her AQ vs his A2, and a giant deuce dropped on the flop and held.  Don't know how she kept her cool on that one!

After a good half hour or so Emanuel was pulling away, and then Kat won a big hand and stacks were close with E still in the lead by a bit.

Maybe it's because it was late (10:30? Yeah I guess that's late for us now) or maybe Emanuel was feeling the Pepper Street spirit - he offered an even money chop AND amazingly offered Kat the TOC seat!   She graciously accepted and that was that!   They each got $320 and Kat got the seat.

Kat joins Ms. Priya as our second tournament champion of 2020-21 and will join her and the rest of the champs and high point finishers in the Tournament of Champions in January.  Way to go Kat!

And also way to go Emanuel!  You are a mensch of the highest order sir!  Your generosity will not be forgotten by this host and should also be known and heralded throughout the PSP universe of players.

Our next event will be in two weeks and will NOT be No-Limit Hold-Em, but it will be the 2nd most popular poker game in the world - Pot Limit Omaha!

Remember, Pot Limit Omaha - or PLO as it's commonly known - is HIGH ONLY.  It plays just like NLHE but has two massive differences.   One - you get 4 hole cards.  Two - You MUST use two cards in your hand and three on the board, no other combinations to make a hand.

Remember, as always it will be a non-NLHE game and therefore will be worth DOUBLE Player of the Year points.
