2013.02

While January's tournament was the coldest in the history of Pepper Street, February's event was absolutely divine - the temperature held fast at a balmy 55! And inside the garage it was even warmer as there were plenty of smoking hot maniacs splashing chips like nobody's business.
Degenerates gonna degenerate.

Blue Table Madness
Table of Doom.
While aggressive players were in abundance, there also was no shortage of monster cards and inevitable collisions.  The green table especially, which happened to be my table (funny how that always works out) seemed to be a particularly strong magnet for premium starting cards.  In the first hour we saw aces no fewer than half a dozen times around the table.  Dan I. alone had the rockets 4 times!

I woke up with AA in the small blind and ended up 5 bet shoving to Mike K.'s big blind 4 bet.  He tanked for a bit before folding AK face up.  I of course showed and we all patted ourselves on the back for being such bad ass poker players.

Dog D. was first out (at the table of doom of course) when his (wait for it) Aces got cracked in a crippling hand.  He did manage to quadruple his nub a few hands later but alas, succumbed shortly thereafter.

The power of the table of doom was so strong that other players managed busted from it before the first break as well!  Both exits were no doubt similar to hands like this...

Can't remember when this happened, but it was typical of the entire evening.
But not all the crazy collisions happened on the green felt.  Over on the blue dingy speed cloth there was a spectacular crash as well.  This time it was a renewal of the old (by old I mean 1 tournament prior) rivalry between Allen R. and Carlos T.  You may remember last month when Carlos with KK and Allen with AA got it in pre-flop and this happened...

This month, the sickness continued...  Carlos had A10 and Allen had the power house 10 5.  All the chips went in on a flop of 10 10 x.  The turn was a blank, but the river a delightfully disgusting 5.

A little while later at this hand occurred.  Enjoy.

Yes, that is the flop on the left and the river is a delightful lady.  Don't remember who was in this hand, and it's probably better that I don't.

As the evening rolled on, the new structure was fair but firm, and we broke the third table just before 10 and final tabled just after 11.

The few, the proud, the final table homies and homettes.
I was long gone - I played well until the one hand where I sucked.  Tournament poker, thou art one fickle thingy.

The final table played out predictably, meaning it was completely impossible to guess who would emerge triumphant.  Our bubble boy (meaning he got his buy-in back) was Jason H. whose relentless aggression and expert play finally had to relent to the ever increasing blinds.

Next to bust in 5th place, collecting $100 (plus another $40 in bounties - always play the bounty game kids!) was Julie A.

Finishing in 4th for $130 was the always delightful PSP veteran Barbara N.

Out in third place was brand new player Ken L., who took home $150.  Ken was brought to the game by Carlos.  Thanks so much for bringing new blood Carlos!  Be sure to have him e-mail me so I can add him to the evite list!

And then there were two.  Stacks went back and forth a bit before this hand unfolded...

The 8 barely played and Dan G. had to settle for second place.  In all fairness to Dan, the blinds were humungous and it was time to get it in.  Dan took home $200 for second place.

And then there was one!  Allen R. took home his second first place trophy from PSP!

Super hard core grinder.

Well done Allen!

A big thanks to Jason who stayed late to help shuffle.  And a big thanks to the rest of you for coming out and making the evening super fun as always.

Actually, Jason didn't stay too late - because this month I got the structure exactly right and we ended precisely on schedule!

I rule.
Our next tournament is over 40 days away!  Boo!  Unfortunately I'm working on the second Saturday in March so I have to make it the third Saturday - March 16th.  Hopefully I can squeeze a cash game in between then and now - remember, long time players get the first invite.  Until then, may all your cards be live and all your pots be monsters, and may you fade that 5 on the river.

Rock on!
