It was a mite chilly outside, but inside the garage out back - 22 playas made for a night of red hot poker action!
A big thanks to Dan I. and Stephen B. for bringing new players along. Dan I. brought good neighbor and swell fella Jacob and Stephen brought two players, Kyle and Meg - also as pleasant as can be.
First to hit the rail, well after the first break, thanks to a cooler king high versus ace high flush type thing (we've all been there) was Tony Montana, aka Ark S.
As always, the bust outs started slow, but quickly ramped up as the second break came and went.
The third table broke at this time, and the race to the final table was on. John S. was close to life support when yours truly called off his shove of 33 with AK. If I recall, John's hand held up. Oh wait, it didn't just hold up, he flopped QUADS.
A bit of overkill John. And of course I spiked a king on the river just for extra sickness. Oh well. We both went out shortly thereafter and just after 11 it was final table time.
Once again, I've tweaked the structure just a bit to add a little more play in the later rounds. It seemed to work out great as the short stacks still had to get it in or get out, while the bigger stacks had a bit more room to maneuver.
Our bubble boy this time was Jason H., alway gracious at coming so close but so far away from a refund, which is what the next player to bust got. It was Meg, who despite her disturbing method of running the board was a welcome addition to the game.
Next to fall for 5th place monies of $80 was the always delightful Julie A., who also scored extra points (in my mind) for cleaning up the mess of spilled soda I made in the first break so I could frantically deal with add-ons and coloring up. It was noticed Julie, and very much appreciated.
Next to fall was POY titan Mike P., who scooped up $100 for fourth place.
Three handed play ended just before midnight, with brand spankin' new player Jacob scoring $150.
And then there were two. David M. and Marc F. both had big stacks and played probably over 20 hands or so before all the chippies went in pre-flop with two pocket pairs in the hole.
I know Mike P. has Player of the Year locked up mathematically, but I'm thinking of giving it to Dog anyway, as he showed up at 11:30 last night after his Monkees concert and brought tacos! And he helped shuffle! Yep, I may have to change the plaque and bracelet, it all depends on what food Mike brings next month.
Speaking of next month, our final tournament for 2012 will be on Saturday, December 8th at 7pm. As always at Pepper Street in December, everyone who final tables will get a prize.
Hope to see you there!
