A "mere" 21 players piled into a chilly garage last Saturday night for the second tournament of the year at Pepper Street.
It was a special night because it was the world wide web debut of PSP, with our overhead Pepper Cam live and beaming out to potentially millions across the internet. Actually, the most I ever saw watching was 4 people, but I imagine a good amount more than that at least checked in over the course of the night.
With action underway, the re-buys came fast in furious, with a near record nine before the break. Surprisingly though, no one busted before the magic hour and twenty minute mark.
Furthermore, it was another two full rounds before our first victim hit the rail - Krista K., delightful new player and wife of Garner K. who took second place last month.
Two other new players also graced the garage with their presence - Jeff W. (who was the third Jeff in attendance), friend of PSP semi-regular Matthew S. and Rob G., yet another new player brought along by Josh F. Great to see so many new faces and I hope they'll all be back again soon.
It was another round or so before the next bust out, and after that we quickly went to two tables and then to the final table at about 1030pm, with Tom S. busting as the FT bubble.
We paid the 6th place finisher their money back, and once again it was Barbara N. Yes, Barbara, we know that you never make the money. This is your 3rd cash in 5 tournaments.
Next out in fifth place, collecting $80 including a bounty or two, was new player (though not new to poker) Jeff. W. With Jeff G. and Jeff M. also in attendance, we are definitely THE place for poker playing Jeffs in Burbank.
Finishing in fourth was last month's second place finisher Garner, who powered his way to $100 including bounties.
Next to fall was none other than yours truly, who managed to play well and got his money in bad only once on the road to busting in third for $135 with no bounty but his own remaining.
The hour was late, almost 12:30, and the stacks were both big when Mike P. and Jeannie N. agreed to chop the money evenly ($240 each). Since Mike P. did have the chip lead by more than a bit, he offered to take the points and give Jeannie the trophy which she happily accepted.
Jeannie was happy because of the trophy, but also alas, because the points don't mean much to her this year. Sadly, she is moving to Texas at the end of the month. I know I speak for everyone in the garage when I say, she will be greatly missed!
Our next tournament, as you can see by the ginormous number of days on the countdown, is not until March 24th. Hope you can make it! I am also pondering a cash game for the first Friday night in March, pencil it in. If you don't get the evite, it means the game is already full - I give first crack to longtime regulars, before putting out the evite to everyone.
