Tournament Report 11/14/09

Wow!

Finally, almost all of the regulars showed up in the same month, and as a result we had 22 players! And with a single rebuy/add-on structure the prize pool was a whopping $860! A new record for Pepper Street Poker.

It was shortly after the first break that we had our first player go out. A brand new player as it turns out, Paul F., brought to the game by Stephen B. - Paul, like Stephen, was super nice and super quiet (not difficult to be with me yammering away at his table), so I hope he had fun and will be back again soon. Thanks so much to Stephen for bringing him in.

A flurry of bust-outs followed, and we reached two tables just before 10, and a final table just after 11.

At the beginning of the evening I knew we would very likely finish after midnight. I put the over-under at 1230am. Turns out, it was over even that.

Aredelle P. bubbled out as midnight approached - her fabulous prize (which I couldn't finde last night) was finally fished out of a very messy cabinet drawer this morning, and it is waiting for her the next time she comes to a game. The prize - I know the suspense is killing you - a double feature DVD of National Lampoon's Vacation (classic) AND National Lampoon's European Vacation (criminally underrated).

David M. finished fourth, collecting $86, and a gang of POY points, which were still not enough to overtake Marc F. who busted earlier to gather enough points to keep most of his lead. (Click on the Standings link to the right to see where we stand).

Another brand new player, Nancy (thanks to Nick B. for bringing her) hung on through countless improbable short stack double ups to finally bust in 3rd place and take home $129. As with Paul, Nancy was a welcome addition and I hope she'll be back soon.

With numerous big swings behind them, and with 1am approaching, Jeff. M. and the bubble player's husband Noah P. agreed to chop the winnings evenly, taking home $322 each! Jeff had the chip lead at the agreement and so took home the trophy and the extra point.

A big thanks to Marc F. for staying to help shuffle and to others for sticking around to watch and give moral support.

A great evening! Our next tournament is Saturday, December 12 at 7pm. It will be a HO HO HO tournament, a mixed game format of Hold-em and Omaha/8. It will likely be No Limit Hold-Em and Pot Limit Omaha/8 with a $30 entry and no rebuys or add-ons.

I'm still pondering doing a cash game on Friday, December 4th. I'll decide within the next week or so.
