Friday Cash- 2023.06

 It was a lovely Friday night that saw 10 eager gamblers gather around the biggest table in the garage and indulge in playing the Cadillac of poker - good ol’ No-Limit Texas Hold-Em!

Tony G, Colin, Lea Anne, Stuver, Mike C, Ian, Jeff G, Jerry, Allen R and yours truly were the players and with a high hand bonus, occasional Bomb Pots and a rollicking Nit Game at 9pm, there was action to spare and the chips were flying from the get go.

After a couple of hours we did have a few bust outs, inevitable with all the action. Straddles were frequently employed and people loved to call and see flops, often with spectacular results!

Yours truly did well, in for $120 and out for $280. Others, who weren’t felted were down a bit or up a bit or close to even. But the stack with the Scotty dog in the picture above belonged to the big winner and that was Mr. Colin. He finished with easily over $500 in his stack. He played well but also was on a bit of a sun-run and hit several rivers to chip up nicely.

All in all another fantastic night of cash game fun and frivolity! Always the best time to be had in the garage! Very much looking forward to our next cash game extravaganza - a mix game circus which will be on Friday night, June 16 at our usual time.

2023.05

 An absolutely stunning day gave way to a very cool and comfortable evening as 18 poker players sat down to rumble in a good old fashioned no limit Texas hold ‘em tournament.

We had a couple of last-minute cancellations, including one that I found out after I texted the person during the tournament and they said they had canceled. Alas, they had not changed the Evite. 

This can be very disruptive, I’m sure they didn’t mean to do it, but please remember everyone if you have to cancel it’s OK but please text me directly if it’s anywhere near the actual start time. Evite is flaky and sometimes the changes you make don’t go through and of course sometimes it is indeed operator error as I suspect was the case here.

But no matter, those that did show had a grand old time and there was lots of action but no bust outs before the first break.

Action was especially hot and heavy at table one, where yours truly battled it out with Ken and Andrew among others. First one to bite the bullet well after the first break was Mr. Ken. I had chipped up substantially but alas it was not to last.

We haven’t seen Carla in a hot minute, and unfortunately she was gone in only a few minutes after the break, finishing in 17th. Next to go was Mr. Jeff S over at the third table.

And then it was my turn to exit. Joe got moved to our table and promptly ran his queens into my kings. I was set to drag an almost 60 K pot, but of course the two outer hit for Mr. Joe on the river and I was crippled. I started to spin it up with a few good timed shoves, but then my luck ran out, again, as my KQ ran headlong into Mr. Dan L.’s AA. As soon as I left, we broke the third table and there was only two tables left.

Next to exit at table number two was Laura, followed by Dan L who apparently was unable to put my chips to use. Jerry and Allen busted out next followed by Jeff G as our final table bubble.

Philip didn’t have time to actually sit down at the final table, as he busted right before everybody moved over, so our FT was at eight total.

The money fast approached, with Kyle and Babs busting in eighth and seventh respectively. Alas our unfortunate bubble was Mr. Arthur, his better half is abroad so he had to make the walk and then the drive of shame home alone. Poker really sucks sometimes!

And then we were in the money!

First to cash for $120 was POY points leader Ian, who being a class act snapped the next few pictures for your host to post here.

Next out in fourth place was the always fun and entertaining Mr. Andrew. It’s been a minute Andrew, great to have you back! He had to settle for $160 and a hearty handshake.

And then there were three and it was very much looking like it would be a repeat of last month, with Joe sitting behind a mountain of chips. 

Unfortunately for him, this time around things would be different as neither Colin nor Lea Anne were shy about re-jamming all of their chips when Joe would frequently open. 

Eventually Joe had to settle for third and $220. I don’t know how but I miscounted and there was only $200 for him in the pile, I was ready to pull it out of the TOC fund but Joe graciously offered it as a tip. Very much appreciated Joe, you are a class act! I will look for a chance in the future to get that back to you somehow. 

And then we were heads up…

Alas there was no giant heads up battle, our two opponents made a deal after a short discussion. They would split the money evenly, at $350 apiece. Colin graciously offered Lea Anne the seat which she happily excepted. I wasn’t paying attention to who had the chip lead, I believe they were close and of course the hour was late.

So congrats to this gal on her first tournament title at Pepper Street!

A big thanks to all the nice people who came out and made it a great time as always! Another fun night in the books! 

Our next event is just going to be good old fashion no limit Texas hold ‘em once again, as I have a hard time getting enough interest in the mix games to justify running it in the middle of the summer. Sure I get lots of mixed game players complaining and begging me for a different variety of tournaments, then of course when we go to play half or more don’t show up. So I am much more inclined to reward the loyal regulars who largely prefer the Cadillac of poker. 

Looking forward to yet another great tournament in the NLHE streets, which will be on June 10 - same bat time same bat channel.

Friday Cash- 2023.05

 A very special guest was in town from up north, Mr. Willie made his first appearance in the garage in over a decade, and he picked a great night, as there were two tables of fabulous mix games grinding away through the night.

Jeff S, Barbara, Colin, Ian, Kyle and Jason made up one table; Stuver, Priya, Willie, Jerry Lea Anne, Mike C and yours truly filled out the second.

Because the tables were six and seven handed respectively, all the games were available for play, including for the first time ever - Courchevel! 

What. prey tell, is Courchevel? It’s hippest thing that all the kids are doing, duh. It is any Omaha variant with a preview single card on the flop before the first round of betting. Typically it is combined with Big O, but can also be integrated with regular four card Omaha games. We did it! It was fun, it was silly, it was something different. We learned it from playing online, which we have been doing since the pandemic. So who were the big wieners? Well it wasn’t yours truly this time, I finished the night about even. A couple of players were felted after three hours or so and departed. Another player or two were just tired and left 1030-ish. This meant that we had a single table of eight for the rest of the night. 

When the dust cleared it was our special guest Willie who had the most chippies, finishing up well over $200 in profit.

And here is where I normally say we wrapped it up just before midnight, but if I said that I would be lying. It was well after, wait for it, 2 AM when the degenerates decided they’d had enough. And this was only because it was difficult to deal and keep track of bets because we were so darn tired.

As has been the case with almost all the cash games in the last year or so, it was truly a great evening and tons of fun. Lots of the best kind of table talk and a wide variety of very cool poker games. In addition to Courchevel we also played another game for the very first time, the one and only Drawmaha, which has taken a foothold over at the Moose as one of the most popular selections. We had great fun with it last night and the new players even enjoyed it as well.

I can’t say thank you enough to all the true poker players who came out last night, especially my dear friend from up north who I probably haven’t seen in over 10 years. We see each other on a weekly basis on zoom, but it’s just not the same as hanging out in person. Love you brother!

Our next cash game will be no limit hold ‘em only, and probably happen towards the end of the month, stay tuned for the Evite.
