It was that time of year in Burbank. When the clouds evaporated and the sun beat down on the valley like an anvil – and The Garage Around Back became an uninhabitable sweatbox. That’s right, it was time for a Poker alfresco!
Many of you know that it takes an exponentially greater amount of work to set up for poker on the patio, but you also know that it is well worth it. When a little breeze kicks in in the shade, as it did often yesterday, poker out in the open can be downright delightful.
It stayed light until almost 8 PM, we had a normal amount of bust outs after the break, and a handful of reentries before that point. All in all 20 players and 24 entries total meant we could pay five with a very nice $320 on top.
Then the sun went down and we re-drew for the final table. Yours truly managed to run up a large stack and a good amount of bounties, but I couldn’t quite close it out as you will see.
The inimitable Lea Anne was our unfortunate bubbler, finishing in sixth place.
Busting in fifth and getting double his buy-in, $80, was brand new player Philip, brought in by Mike C. Philip is not brand new to me as I have played with him at the Moose for more than a few years at this point. Great to see him at Pepper Street!
Next out, perpetual raising machine Mr. Eric L., Who had played expertly and aggressively, had to settle for a fourth Place pay out of 120.
And then there were three…
I had been running hot almost the entire tournament, unfortunately I finally cooled off at the most crucial time. I had a good cards to open with but nothing hit, and with two sticky and dangerous opponents it wasn’t long before I was whittled away and eventually busted in a standard flip. I got $140, third place, and a nice amount of points to retain my unofficial lead in the POY race.
Then it was heads up time, which actually lasted I want to say well over a half an hour. No chop was mentioned and it was two titans of the game battling it out!
After the dust settled, and the wife and I had put the other table and chairs away back in the garage, it was this guy who stood alone…
It seems like Mr. Allen wins a tournament every year, and it looks like this year is no exception.
Mr. Colin had to settle for second place and a nice pay out of $180 plus $15 more in bounty action.
Allen got a $320 first place pay out plus another $25 in bounties and of course the TOC seat locked up along with the new super sexy PSP hockey puck card protector.
Our next event isn’t for a while, 27 days from now in fact. On Saturday, July 23 at 1 PM it will be time for another PSP Main Event!
$80 gets you 40,000 in chips, and the winner gets a super fly, super dope trophy!
We will be out on the patio again, and there will be extra tables so we could potentially have over 40 players!
