If you read that wall of text below detailing the changes for 2018 you already know that one big difference this year is that we will be keeping a points system to determine Player of the Year. We are also keeping the T.O.C., the winner of that event will be named PSP Champion. Both names will be put up on the perpetual plaque.
I searched far and wide for a points system that will reward players who finish higher, players who attend more tournaments and players that re-enter less. Behold - Dr. Neau's Tournament formula - punch in your numbers to see what points you would get for a large tournament.

I think this will work nicely! You can already click on the word 'SREADSHEET' in the upper right hand corner of this blog to see our 2018 POY Spreadsheet - just waiting for our first tournament! The very BEST thing about this system is that it inflicts a heavy penalty if you use your re-entry. None of our tournaments are meant to be anything other than freeze-outs, but I allow a single re-entry just in case you get coolored early on, so your evening isn't cut short. PSP tournaments are NOT supposed to be played like a re-buy event, hopefully this points penalty will enforce this.
I am toying with the idea of only counting a certain number of tournaments, like 8 or so. I want to reward players who attend more often, but I also don't want to give a handful of players (that includes me) who show up every single month, a disproportionate advantage. Have to ponder this a bit more. Also in the spirit of rewarding more active and enthusiastic players, I will maintain the practice of years past in that non-Hold-em tournaments will be worth double points.
