This was a tournament that had been moved from Saturday to Friday night because I had a free-roll to play at the Moose Lodge, and then I had to push the time to 830pm because of work. Yes, there were forces at work to stop Pepper Street poker, but the power of degeneracy was not to be denied! We got going and got gambling, late start and all!
But because of this late start, and in spite of dispensing with the 25-50 level, we didn't break the third table until almost 11pm!
We had 3 new players among us, and I'm happy to say they did well. Well, actually a bit more than well - while Jacob succumbed at or around final table time, his wife Julie and the other new player April made it to the last stage with a good amount of chips to spare. It was midnight when the money bubble finally burst.
It was yours truly who was the bubble-boy. As host I didn't get to spin the wheel-o-fun, so I had to sit and sulk while the remaining players partied on.
Ian T., an infrequent player but a swell fella, had accumulated a mountain of chips over at the green table - but the final table saw his mountain range crumble and he busted in 6th place to get his money back plus $20 in bounties and a hearty handshake as well.
George was next to bust - getting double his money back and zero in bounties because he doesn't play that shit.
Finishing in fourth place was George's homie Joey, who got a lovely $150 for his time and trouble.
And then there were three...
Yes, you are seeing correctly - three players, two of them brand spanking new to the garage and another that has joined us maybe 3 or 4 times before - on the cusp of greatness!
Dan W. fought the good fight but in the end had to settle for a third place prize of $200 and a bounty or two. A pretty good amount, much more in line with a typical second place finish at PSP on a Saturday night.
And then it was on like Donkey Kong!
Julie and April are both brand new to Pepper Street, but they both have plenty of experience on the felt. A big thanks to Barbara for bringing them (and Jacob) into the fold. She met them at the WGA Charity tournament the other week. They are all super cool and I'm super glad to have them along. I hope they come back again and again.
The heads up battle raged, and it was well after 1am when the dust finally settled.

It looked like it was going to go April's way, until it didn't. Still, April got $260 for her trouble plus bounty action. Julie got the top prize of $340, and some bounties, and the beautiful PSP Card Protector and a seat in The Tournament of Champions in January! Well done Julie! Yes, all the tournaments in the garage are super easy - come back again and again for easy money!
A big thanks to everyone who came out and as usual made it a very fun time for all. I say this every year at this time, but I am super grateful - super thankful - to have such a nice bunch that recognizes that we play this game for fun and does their best to have a good time.
It was also pretty cool to once again have a good representation of women players, and especially cool that the top two spots went to the better sex. Rock on women of poker!
Our next monthly is something special - H.O.R.S.E. returns to Pepper Street! Saturday, November 18 at 7pm! Be there or be a loser who only plays No-Limit Hold-em! Your choice! Hopefully I will see you there!
