2014.04

It was a cool spring evening that saw 18 of Pepper Street Poker's finest sit down for a raucous session of teh pokerz.  Actually it wasn't too crazy, we set a modern record for longest tournament without a bust out - it was over 2 hours in, in the seventh round, when our first casualty (Julie A.) finally hit the rail.

Game on!
And 2 hours later and all 18 players still in it to win it!
After Julie took her leave, the bust outs continued, though slower than normal.  It was 10:30 when the second table finally broke.  Strangely enough, earlier I somehow ended up at that second table and some smart person thought to take a super sexy shot.

Fear me bitches.
While I was at la tabla rojo, this hand unfolded at the other table.  Yes, all the money went in pre-flop.  I remember who was in the hand, but frankly, it's better if I don't mention it.

So nasty.
When the final table did form up, the stacks were short and the aggression was high.  And so was I.  High from a suck out I inflicted on a new player, Evan B., who Stephen B. brought into the game - All the money went in with Evan in command with top set, I had an over pair that miraculously caught running cards for a flush.  Yucky, especially because it was against a super friendly new player. Thanks for bringing him in Stephen, hopefully he'll come back and run better.

Even though I was chip leader I had to play pretty snug as lots of shorties were eager to jam light.  And jam they did.

Final Table Time
It was less than an hour later when the money bubble burst, and last month's champ Jason H. busted in fifth place to earn his money back.

Mike P. fell next, doubling his buy-in by finishing fourth.

Barbara N. had expertly navigated her short stack past multiple landmines to find herself scooping up third place monies in the form of $120.

And then there were two - Jeff S. and myself.  I started out with a substantial lead, but was unable to close the deal and eventually got whittled down a bit and then lost a 60/40 (with me as the 40) to get crippled and eventually out.  All in all - the heads up battle lasted over an hour.  Longer than the final table took to get down to heads up.  It was quite a slug fest.

I finished second for the second month in a row (oh yay) and pocketed $180 for second place - plus another $35 in bounties. Can't complain I guess.

Jeff took down his first tournament of the year, after a two month absence, and scooped up $260.  Well done Jeffy!

Pull my finger.  Really.  Just do it.
All in all another great night - thanks so much to Jason for sticking around and performing the thankless task of fetching me drink after drink.  Actually, he shuffled endlessly when it was heads up - an enormous pain in the ass that was greatly appreciated by both heads up players.

The next monthly isn't until May 31st.  Boo!  I'm afraid my May is just too darn hectic to do it any other day besides the 17th, and that day I want to reserve for our WSOP satellite, as the wife and kiddo are both out of town so we can play in the daytime and make a real event of it.

Stay tuned for both evites - I'll be sending them shortly.  Until then, peace and we out!
