2014.03

It poured buckets all day in Burbank, making for a fairly drenched set up experience - but when 7pm rolled around the clouds lifted and 21 hearty souls entered the still dry terror-dome for a night of raucous degeneracy.

21 isn't the easiest number table-wise, plus I had to bust out "Little Greenie" to make room for -

Les' Goodies.
You may notice the cookies on the table, including this beauty in tribute to the imminent arrival of St. Patty's day (yes, 17 days away is imminent enough).

But then I remembered that my kid had a bunch of these to unload -

So I hid the cookies I had bought, they'll have to be brought out next time!  Thankfully many who came dug deep and dug into some yummy and super healthy GS Cookies - a great cause and a tasty treat.

But while the green Oreos had to vanish - the Celtic and "Luck" themed music (again, in tribute to the half a month away St. Patty's day) rocked the house and we all had a little bit of Irish in us (or at least we wanted it in us) as the evening unfolded.

Action started out fast and furious. We had 3 bust outs well before the break, I had to break the little green table so fast that I didn't have time for an action shot - just this pre-game snap.

If this old table could talk...
It would likely say "I"m not Yellow, dummy."
G-Bone and co. grind on into the night.
Notable hand by Mr. Bone - his first live straight flush.
Sexy Red table - complete with new guy.
Two new players joined us - another Mike (thank goodness, we only have like 10 of them), Mike L. brought in by Dog.  And Theresa, brought in by Andrew R.  Both players were a delight to have along and I hope they e-mail me to get on the list!

Before 10:30 it was final table time - and I somehow had been hit in the face with the deck and hadn't busted out!

Yes, those are really chips in my seat.
The structure did it's job and within an hour the money bubble had burst.  Tom L. was first to go out afterwards, and collected his buy in back plus a bounty or two.

Next out in fourth place, for yet another cash (4 out of the last 5 tournaments I believe) was Dan G., who doubled his buy-in.

I started off as the short stack three handed, but thanks to a bit of luck (O' the Irish) I managed to double up and it was Mike P. who left us next, pocketing $120 for third place.

And then there were two; the hour was late (just after midnight) and Jason and I agreed to chop the monies for $240 apiece (plus we both had 4 or 5 bounties each) and play for the trophy and the seat to the January freeroll.

It was brief but spectacular.  The final hand went a little something like this....

Jason's cards, A7 on the left, my J10 on the right.  Jason was a substantial favorite on the AJ9 flop, then a substantial dog on the 10 turn, then the winner with an 8 for a straight on the river!  Yay poker!

Truthfully, in my life I know I have never been as happy for someone beating me heads up for a tournament - it's been a bit of a dry spell for Jason as his last tournament win was quite a while back.  He is a hell of a player and his PSP results haven't been especially indicative of that until last night.  Well done my degenerate friend!

About God Damn time!
Truly it was a great night.  A special thanks to Dan G. who did the shuffling duties three handed and heads up, it really helps make short handed play much more bearable.  And a thanks again for the players who brought in groovy new players - I really can't believe how much I run good in this little game as far as quality people who like to play pokerz.  Hashtag blessed.

Our next monthly tournament isn't for awhile yet, 40 days away in the middle of April.  My March is pretty busy, but I might find time to squeeze in a single table tournament on a Friday night at some point.   We will see.

Until the next time we meet on the felt, peace and we out!
