PSP WSOP Satellite 2012.02
16 players gathered around two tables under the patio cover, on an afternoon that thankfully was breezy and a delightful 82 degrees, instead of 90+ which had been forecast earlier in the week.
The blinds started small but the action was big right away, with players eager to bloat pots and push the aggression. Nick B. was the first to bust, but he wasn't the last to exit before the first break which happened at ninety minutes in. 4 players in all hit the rail before the first respite.
After a few hastily prepared and consumed, but oh so tasty, burgers and dogs - play resumed. Aggressive play continued and we were down to a final table less than three hours into the day.
After I busted in 8th place, my AK running into Allen R.'s queens and not improving, things finally slowed down a bit - as all players had plenty of chips, and the structure was deep.
I meant to start recording at five handed, but as you can see from the above video I didn't get around to it until there were only three remaining. I didn't have a chance to record a couple of amazing bust outs that needless to say were rather gut wrenching. Thems teh pokerz.
When the dust had settled Barbara N. and Allen R. both sat on a mountain of chips, with Marc F. hanging on with about 20 big blinds or so.
In the end, just before 6:30pm, he was coolered when his top pair big kicker ran into Barbara's flopped set of fours, and that was that.
Watch the video and you can see Barbara's amazing reaction to the fact that she is Vegas bound; I think she didn't realize or had forgotten that we were giving away two seats!
If you do watch you'll also see that she's not sure if she's going - it is a big commitment and she may end up passing her seat to Marc if her schedule doesn't pan out. I hope she takes the plunge, it's a pretty amazing opportunity that not everyone gets. Whatever her decision, I feel pretty good about our chances of cashing this year!
A big thanks to Amy L., who as the video shows, stuck around for the most annoying job of all - non stop relentless shuffling!
Also, thanks to all involved for coming out and plunking down the big bucks for a shot at the dream. I know that no matter the results, we can all still derive satisfaction that two of our PSP brethren are off to the big show with a chance to bring home some cash-ola for all of us!
Good luck Allen and Babs! (Or Allen and Marc if Barbara can't make it!)
Don't forget, our next regular tournament is next Saturday night, April 28 at 7pm.
Hope to see you there!
