Boy it's rough not playing in the garage! I really miss it - but I thought I would chime in today in more of a blog-style post about what's on my mind. Lately my thoughts have been turning to my favorite flavor of poker - mix game cash!
The truth is, I don't miss poker too much, as I am indulging in a weekly mix cash game at the Moose Lodge.
But a recent discovery of the YouTube content creator "Year of the Wager" has me absolutely dying to play some brand new games that are apparently being spread in Vegas at the Bellagio and at the WSOP when it's in town. Be sure to click on the link here and check out the channel!
Alas, I fear if I was to introduce these amazing games (that are legit played in Vegas poker rooms and are actually legit very popular) to the Moose there would be a fair amount of squawking and likely some real objections to trying them.
Thankfully, in my game, I know we would at least try all the new games I have in mind - and very likely we would end up really liking them too! I say very likely, because I literally haven't even played some of these games!
Anyways, I'd like to post the new games here on the off chance that I might get a regular or two to read this and save us a bit of explanation time. Here we go!
ARCHIE
- Fix Limit 5 card triple draw (7 players MAX)
- Hi/Lo Split pot, best high hand and best low hand (A5 - California Low Rules)
- Qualifiers for both ends of the pot
- High hand must be 99 or better
- Low hand must be 8 or better
- If neither hand qualifies then 3 OPTIONS for showdown (determine before game starts)
- A - Friendly option, it's a push and pot divided equally among all players still in at showdown
- B - Standard option, highest hand at showdown wins (even if it doesn't qualify)
- C - INSANE option, Pot rolls over to the next hand! (A massive splash pot!)
- Same game and rules as standard Razz with the following wrinkles
- Hands at showdown must qualify to win - hand only qualifies with a PAINT card (J,Q or K) in the seven cards held.
- Paint card does not have to be used in the five card poker hand.
- If no qualifier at showdown then 2 OPTIONS for showdown (determine before game starts)
- A - Friendly option, it's a push and pot divided equally among all players still in at showdown
- B - Standard option, lowest hand at showdown wins (even if it doesn't qualify)
A5 TRIPLE DRAW
- Fix Limit 5 card triple draw (7 players MAX)
- Low hand at showdown wins (A5 - California Low Rules)
RAZZDUGI
- Seven stud (8 players MAX)
- Split pot game - best five card low (A5) and best four card low Badugi (A4)
- If no 4 card Badugi (very unlikely) then lowest 3 card Badugi wins half the pot
- Seven stud (8 players MAX)
- Split pot game - best five card low (2-7) and best four card low Badugi (2-5)
- If no 4 card Badugi (very unlikely) then lowest 3 card Badugi wins half the pot
- 2-7 Kansas City Low rules - Aces are always high, straights and flushes count against a hand
What follows below is some MAJOR rule variations that I'd also like to implement here and there - that make the games very different!
Make STUD "SUPER"
- Can be implemented in any stud variation
- Players are dealt 4 cards down and 1 card up and must DISCARD 2 cards immediately
- It may be trial and error, but I suspect we can only play with 6 or 7 players max
- If we run out of cards on 6th street we do not go to community cards, we shuffle the muck (includes discards and mucked hands) and put the burn cards on top (after taking replacement burn cards from the muck).
- If we run out of cards on 7th street we use a community card
- "Ari" is it's own game but is played exactly the same as Archie with the following wrinkles
- A single community card comes out immediately following the initial deal (no burn before)
- This face up card can be used by any player to add to their high hand only (not the low hand)
- Exactly the same as Razz, but not A5 California - instead it's Kansas City 2-7
- Exactly the same as Drawmaha but instead of a 5 card draw high hand, half the pot goes to the lowest 5 card draw 2-7 hand!
