2018.09 Crazy Pineapple

A not too hot day gave way to a not too warm evening for a tropical night in the Garage Around Back!

The plaques are back!

19 players stepped up to the plate and stepped on in to the Tiki madness of PSP's 2nd Annual Crazy Pineapple tournament.  Along for the ride was new player (though not new to poker) Carla, brought along by her other half Joe who played his first PSP event last month.  Great having you both, hope you'll come back soon!

Crazy Pineapple is actually just No-Limit Hold-Em, but with a twist - 3 hole cards instead of 2 and you discard one after the flop.  That's it.  Not really a big difference, but big enough to justify going a a bit crazy on the decorations!

And of course this month's collectable chip.

Though we only had 19 players, a step down from last month's 40, there was plenty of action to go around, with 5 re-entries before the break.  The fluorescent lights were kept off, giving a different look to the evening.

Yeah, this happened.

Though there was a cash table set up, the tournament structure was so deep that with 19 players, everyone got at least 3 hours of play before they busted, so no one stuck around to donate more.  Tournament action was where it was at!   I had lots of time to take pictures, because I busted out first. Boo.

And then it was just after 10:30 and it was final table time.

The money bubble burst just after 1130.  Nick was the unfortunate recipient of the FML chip.  And then we had our 'in the money' gang.

First to exit, getting his money back, was PSP Legacy Player Dan G., who was also inducted into the Legacy Hall of Fame on this evening.  He would've been brought in last month but was out of the country.  Even though his induction was last night, he is considered to be part of the inaugural class as he was a participant in the original game in Hancock park back in the time of the dinosaurs.  Dan in fact, was the one who invited me to that game.

Next out, getting double his buy in back, was long time PSP player and perpetual cashing machine Allen R.

Finishing in fourth place, collecting triple his buy in and a bounty or two was Teresa's significant other Rob, who somehow was allowed out of the house to play some cards this time.

And then there were 3.

3 handed play continued for quite a while, it was almost 12:30am when Jason finally succumbed and had to settle for $180 in third place money.

Barbara had played exceptionally well all evening, but in the end she was unable to overcome the massive pile of plaques that Jerry had accumulated.  Barbara finished 2nd, running her pocket queens into a turned straight.  She scooped up $200.  Well done Babs!

And so for the second time this year, Mr. Jerry found himself in the winner's circle.  He collected $300 plus another $25 in bounties!  For this he gets a bonus 10K in the TOC.  Nicely done my man!

For our next event we are back to our usual No Limit Texas Hold-Em, looking like it will be Saturday night, October 6.  Save the date!

As usual, senior players will get the Evite first, but the full list will go out as soon as we fill 10 seats, leaving 17 seats available first come first serve.  NLHE games have been filling very fast - so no new players please!
