A great time was had by all 13 players, along with a couple of wives, a fiance' and a handful of kids, at the first ever annual PSP Sunday Doublestack BBQ and Poker Tournament.
A recently installed patio cover and pavers, as well as a newly purchased grill, were put into service and much meat was consumed prior to playing. A huge thanks must go out to Allen Q. the grill master who cooked burgers and brauts to perfection as well as a beautiful piece of ribeye brought by Michael K. Others brought goodies as well, and it was all very much appreciated by your humble host.
The food and the company were so good, that we almost forgot about playing poker. Almost. Despite the tournament being a freeze-out, no one busted before the first break. Stephen B. got the honors when play resumed, coolered by turning a set and being outkicked at showdown.
Bustouts were intermittent until after nearly three hours of play when the blinds finally got nasty. Allen Q. was the official bubble boy, busting out in a multi-way pot. He snagged the Paul Newman classic "The Hustler" as a fine consolation.
Though we were only paying three, in the spirit of a festive BBQ the host took $30 off the top prize to give fourth place finisher Jeff M. his buy-in back.
Yours truly finished third and cashed with $83.
Marc F. and Amy L. battled heads up for awhile before Amy emerged victorious. Marc. F. collected $117 for first place and Amy L. walked away with $163 plus her first PSP trophy - a unique for the year golden version of the standard PSP silver trophy.
A big thanks to those who stayed to help out, especially Jeff M. who did the lions share of the shuffling.
Over all, another great tournament - I hope we can do it again next year (probably a bit later in the afternoon, by 5 o'clock the weather was just perfect, not too hot with a delightful breeze.)
Get ready for evites - our next PSP game is a cash game on a Friday night, September 10th at 7pm. The next tournament it turns out will be on Saturday night, September the 25th at 7pm.
Hope to see you there!
