Tournament Report 5/16/09

21 poker players squeezed into the garage for what would be an epic, fun and fairly grueling evening of NLHE play.

The action was hot and heavy and it wasn't long after the break that Robert A. was the first to fall.

Others fell in quick succession, including yours truly who busted out 8th.

The final table however, which formed when we reached 9 players just before 11pm, proved to be a different beast altogether.

It was almost 90 minutes before the bubble burst, with new player Bobby B. excitedly collecting his King Kong DVD prize.

It then was awhile before David M. took down 5th place money - and then even longer, much longer, for the final results.

1am approached, and with the stacks nearly even and the players exhausted, for the first time ever the final four agreed to chop the winnings!

While all four players collected $100 for their efforts, Player of the Year Points were still awarded accordingly according to chip counts at the chop.

New player Stuver was 4th in points, Allen L. 3rd, John S. 2nd and Marc F. 1st - also collecting the trophy!

While through the evening, everyone seemed pleased with the new stack structure and absence of unlimited rebuys, in the end it seems that the blinds simply don't escalate quickly enough in the later stages.

Rest assured, this will be fixed in the next NLHE tournament.

But as of now the next NLHE is not till August, next month we'll be playing H.O.R.S.E.! Stay tuned for the evite!

REMEMBER: Since there are NO rebuys or add-ons in this fixed limit event, the buy-in will be $30 instead of $20.

I'd also like to thank Noah P. for bringing in a new player, his better half, the delightful Ardelle.

Thanks also to Marc F. for introducing us to the affable Stuver and to Allen L. for bringing along the boisterous Bobby B.

It was really great to see some new faces, I hope they all had fun and will come back again.
