Just a couple of minor points of etiquette about cash games at Pepper St. None of this stuff has ever been a problem, but I think it can't hurt to keep these basics in mind - especially since we've only recently delved into the realm of slightly higher stakes for our cash game play.
Unlike a tournament, you don't really have to be on time. You can be a bit late and that's just fine. As a matter of common courtesy to the other players, you should call the host if you are going to be more than 30 minutes late. If you are going to be substantially late (say an hour or more) it's best to clear it with the host well ahead of time.
Along this same line, it is bad etiquette to play for less than three hours. It's also not a good idea to play for the bare minimum amount of time and then leave abruptly without warning. Just to be safe, if you plan to leave before closing time (which is midnight at Pepper St.) it's best to let everyone know well ahead of time.
It's a very good idea to set a financial limit for yourself, and stick to it. We are definitely playing at a higher level than the tournaments now, and the last thing this host wants is for anyone to go home out of money they can't afford to lose.
Along these lines, I'd say that if you would be in deep agony if you dropped three or four buy-ins, then this probably isn't the game for you. Showing up with the intention to only spend $40 is playing with scared money, and it isn't really fair to the other players if you have to leave after one bad round of Pot Limit Omaha.
In a nutshell, you should look at the game as a chance to have fun. Not to supplement your income or angle shoot your way to victory. We will always be first and foremost a friendly game with friendly people. If you lose your full limit, think of it as a big bar tab on you. More than likely, someone else will get it next time.
